Kapoor & Sons: Real family drama

While the entire city was fully blown away with the Holi fever and cloudy fog in variety of hues around, it really excites but then people like me who are little scared with the crowd usually have other plans- Watching the movie.
I was busy scanning newspaper for the latest releases which I usually do not- but what's a better than watching a nice flick than washing yourself thrice after being painted in Eastman colours.

My Man, pointed on the picture and said- Ok, I feel this the only one we can think about!
Amidst several Bollywood releases which are either too funny to laugh; beyond my tolerance level for which I would surely not spend the precious 1000 bucks or too good for a poor intellect like me- and I would feel like running away from the Cinema hall even before the First half finishes. We finally decided to go for- Kapoor & Sons. The One which I will be reviewing today.

Kapoor and Sons Movie review

Cast: Rishi Kapoor, Ratna Pathak Shah, Rajat Kapoor,Fawad Khan, Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt

Director: Shakun Batra

The story revolves round The Punjabi family, The Kapoors-their old vila, the serene surroundings of Cucunoor. Nothing new or unpredictable about the story. By the next half an hour its easy to predict what would happen and that happens! Story of Love, Life and Betrayal.

The story is all about Dadaji, played by Rishi kapoor is a retired Army Man with his two wishes to fulfill before he dies and his two middle aged sons & their family. The elder son, retired banker & a failed businessman- Rajat Kapoor and his Nagging Wife, Ratna Pathak Shah are trying hard to stick together despite differences. Their two sons- elder one played by Fawad Khan and the other one by Siddharth Malhotra has thier own share of griefs & mutual differences but not disclosed. All of this to save the 'family'.

The entire cast is apt for the characters; but Rajat Kapoor and Ratna Pathak Shah are a treat to watch. They have wonderfully portrayed the dilemma, the fight between a middle-aged couple going through financial & emotional turbulences and a trouble marriage.

Fights & heated conversations in the family reminds you of real family situations which you might have had once in your family too. Whether its between the two brothers or the couple, its all so real. Specially the scene where Plumber gets stuck between the family fight gives light humorous escape.

Fawad Khan as a perfect Son & an established Writer staying in London,  has an impressive screen presence and a actor with great potential. Siddharth Malhotra as struggling writer and a neglected son, could have done better but still was convincing in his role. Alia Bhatt fails to impress especially in the scene where she discloses the tragic end of her parents.

Rishi Kapoor, an amazing actor did his best within the limits of his character and with those 'unnecessary' prosthetics on. He brings refreshing humour with his quirky and jolly acts but still I would say he was wasted.

Music- I could only recollect one song- Ladki Beautiful....it was an out-an-out 'dancefloor' song but I liked the choreography more than the song.
Shakun Batra masters portrayal of real life situations.

Overall Kapoor & Sons is a nice One-time-watch family drama. You can even enjoy while watching this on your Small screen LED, you wont miss that BIG screen.
My Rating- 4/5
